  Pinecrest Academy held a time capsule event to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Head of School Jake Rodgers said he was inspired and affirmed by the thoughtfulness of each capsule item chosen by the students because they reflected the academy’s mission.

• St. Brendan’s shroud exhibit offers story of hope

  An exhibit examining the Shroud of Turin is expanding its collection, giving visitors another perspective on the mystery surrounding the burial cloth. A bronze sculpture of Jesus as he was laid in the tomb helps visitors imagine the man wrapped in the shroud.

  After a full day of school, nearly 20 children arrived at “The Little House” at St. Brendan the Navigator Church for a healthy meal, tutoring and fellowship. It’s part of the parish’s new after-school program that the organizer thinks every parish could replicate.

  Pinecrest Academy welcomed Bishop Joel M. Konzen, SM, to campus on April 29. As the main celebrant of an all school Mass, Bishop Konzen joined high school students for their annual May crowning ceremony.

• Twin babies find home through ‘outpouring of love’

  Jacob and Zoey Stone, fraternal twins born on Aug. 10, were adopted by Dr. James and Alison Stone. The first-time parents, adopted the babies in early December. With the help of Respect Life Ministry, the twins were saved from abortion.

• Jake Rodgers named head of school at Pinecrest Academy

  Jake Rodgers has been named the new head of school at Pinecrest Academy for the 2021-22 school year. Born in San Antonio and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth area of Texas, Rodgers came from a family of educators.

  It was 17 years ago when Greg and Jennifer Willits first founded Rosary Army, not long after Greg made his first all-twine, knotted rosary. A modest ministry at first, the buzz quickly grew of the apostolate with the mission to “Make them, pray them and give them away.”

• Deacon Chester Gorman dies April 20

• Pinecrest Academy hosts first home wrestling match of 2020

  Pinecrest Academy held a three-way wrestling match Jan. 15 between its team, Riverside Military Academy of Gainesville and Salem High School of Conyers in the upper school gymnasium. With only eight wrestlers available, the undermanned and sometimes undersized Pinecrest team still managed to finish in second place.
