Atlanta’s Shrine part of a trio of churches expanding affordable housing

Real estate turns on hard metrics like location, cost and square footage. But for the churches involved with the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Development Corporation, prayer is vital. More than 30 years ago, two Protestant churches and one of the oldest Catholic churches in Atlanta formed this unusual coalition.

  Churches and Knights of Columbus Councils across the Archdiocese of Atlanta share details of their fish frys, offering delicious food, fellowship and a sense of community this Lenten season. 

• St. Matthew Church to receive first-class relic of Padre Pio

  St. Matthew Church in Tyrone will be home to a relic of St. Pio of Pietrelcina after the Archdiocese of Atlanta and the Fayette parish entered into a formal partnership with the Saint Pio Foundation. A Mass for presentation of the relic will be Thursday, Feb. 19.

• St. Lawrence’s new chapel reflects rising interest in eucharistic devotion

  For the first time, St. Lawrence Church has a dedicated chapel for adoration. Named the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel, it is open five days a week, 12 hours a day, as a place set aside instead of a shared space.
