Trappist priest remembered for forming deep connections with others

Published September 5, 2019Father James Behrens, OCSO, died on Aug. 15. He was 71 and a monk for 25 years and priest for 45 years. He entered the Cistercian order at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit in Conyers in 1994. Before that he was a priest for 20 years in the Newark Archdiocese.

Parish business manager earns master’s degree in church management

Helena Frazier, a May graduate of the master’s program in church management at Villanova University, is already applying what she learned during the intensive two-year program. The parish business manager at St. Philip Benizi Church, Jonesboro, Frazier enrolled in the master’s program at the encouragement of the church’s pastor.

Deacon William E. Payne Jr. died on Aug. 9. He was ordained a deacon on Dec. 3, 1988 and served at the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Atlanta. His lifelong ministry was in service to the poor.

Father James S. Behrens, OCSO, Trappist monk and author, dies August 15

Father James Stephen Behrens, OCSO, a monk at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit died on Thursday, Aug. 15. He was 71 years old. A monk of 25 years and a priest of 45 years, he served as a priest of the Archdiocese of Newark before entering the monastery.
