  It was at the age of 5 that Eva Launay-Fallasse stepped onto a soccer field for the first time. The St. Mary’s Academy senior is now co-captain of the school’s soccer team and also a leader off the field.

  Thomas Edward Zaworski, one of the first two permanent deacons ordained for the Archdiocese of Atlanta in 1977, died Dec. 9. He was 86 years old.

  “Magnify the Lord” will be the motto of St. Mary’s Academy, the new consolidated school on the southside of Atlanta. The motto will serve as encouragement to school community members to exemplify the Lord in their lives and actions.

  JoAnn McPherson begins the school year at Our Lady of Mercy High School as its leader after serving as interim principal last year. She’s been at the school since 2001, one year after it was founded. She’s worn two hats for many of those years as assistant principal and an English teacher. 

• Deacon Robert G. Readdy dies June 14

  Deacon Robert G. Readdy, 85, died June 14. He served at St. Gabriel Church, Fayetteville, prior to retiring as as deacon.

• Mercy junior honored with national Youth Virtues, Valor and Vision Award

  For her work to support Camp Sunshine and families of children with cancer, Danielle Garger earned the Youth Virtues, Valor and Vision Award from the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). Garger is a junior at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fayetteville.

• St. Gabriel’s Knights of Columbus host Faith & Sharing Mass
