Msgr. Stephen Churchwell will celebrate the Mass. Sister M. Brunetta, superior in Atlanta, said following Mass the public will be able to venerate relics of Blessed Teresa, who founded the Missionaries of Charity. In Atlanta the sisters minister to indigent women with AIDS at the Gift of Grace House.

When she visited Atlanta in June 1995 to dedicate the Gift of Grace House, Mother Teresa spoke at a Mass celebrated at Sacred Heart.

Mother Teresa was born on Aug. 26, 1910, and died on Sept. 5, 1997. In 2003 she was declared “blessed,” in a formal Catholic Church acknowledgement of the holiness of her life that is the last step before a declaration of sainthood.

Worldwide celebrations of the 100th anniversary of her birth include special Masses, artistic exhibitions and a film festival in India, where a new train in the blue and white colors of the sisters’ habits will be made public. The U.S. Postal Service is issuing a stamp bearing her likeness in September.

The basilica is located at 353 Peachtree St., N.E. Because the Mass will be celebrated on a weekday, visitors are asked to park in the SunTrust parking deck adjacent to the church on Peachtree Street.
