“Flannery O’Connor’s Georgia” is one of the first to be reprinted.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, author/photographer Barbara McKenzie met O’Connor in 1962 when McKenzie was a graduate student writing a doctoral dissertation on contemporary American women writers. She asked to visit and O’Connor welcomed her.

McKenzie a few years later photographed the middle Georgia communities that O’Connor showed in her fiction, from highway signs proclaiming Christ or people seized by the Holy Spirit to the farm and homes in Milledgeville where O’Connor lived.
