The Sullivan Center will hold a special event to honor Sister Marie Sullivan’s 50 years of service on Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Georgia State University Arena.

Admission to the public recognition ceremony, which will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., is free. Individual tickets for a private reception following will be $20. All proceeds will go toward The Sullivan Center to aid in continuing its work in homelessness prevention.

Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and other dignitaries and community leaders, will be on hand to honor Sister Marie. The tribute ceremony and reception will follow the Atlanta commemoration of National Project Homeless Connect Day, also to be held in the GSU Arena. Bill Bolling, founder and executive director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, is also scheduled to speak.

Sister Marie has worked in Atlanta for the past 25 years and previously in Kansas City, Mo. The Dominican sister has led small nonprofit organizations in helping individuals in the low-income populations move into—and thrive in—stable environments and become self reliant, by providing help in a dignified manner to families and individuals facing a stability crisis. The Sullivan Center provides financial planning, nutrition classes and employment counseling, with the goal of preventing homelessness, poverty and economic inequality.
