Area Track And Field Athletes Excel At State Meet

Boys
Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn, finished in third place as a team. The results are as follows: Matt Lethbridge placed first in the 3,200-meter run and second in the 1,600-meter run. Jake Lethbridge placed first in the 1,600-meter run and first in the 800-meter run.
The 4×400 relay team of Jarrell Bankhead, Jared Cooper, Christian Willis, Jake Lethbridge, Courtney Prevost and Matt Lethbridge placed second.
Willis placed third in the 400-meter run and sixth in the 800-meter run. Jonathan Shupenus earned seventh place in pole vault.
The Marist School boys also earned awards at the meet, as follows: Joe Bailey placed second in shot put and third in the discus. David Connolly earned third place in the 1,600-meter run and third place in the 3,200-meter run.
Girls
Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn, finished in fourth place as a team. The results are as follows: Megan Malasarte was the state champion in the 400- and -800-meter run, and Sarah Hohenberger earned third place in the 800-meter run. The 4×100 relay team, Katie Bischoff, Malasarte, Tynese St. Cyr, Jewelian Griffith, D’Arnca Bloodworth and Kristin McClure, placed third. The 4×400 relay team, Bischoff, Malasarte, Hohenberger, Yarahi Castillo, Griffith and McClure, earned fourth place.
For the Marist School girls, Megan Mavity placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run.
