CUMMING—The Pinecrest Academy boys went to Fairburn Friday, Feb. 1, and took care of business with an 80-40 victory over Arlington Christian School. Pinecrest was led by senior guard Brian Guhde’s 19 points. Guhde shot a blistering 71 percent from 3-point range and 63 percent overall from the field. Guard Mike Metz also had 18 points and 9 rebounds and forward/center Brendan Donahue finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Following the game Pinecrest head coach Andres Montana said, “The is the best we’ve played—a great team effort. We rebounded really well.”

Pinecrest Academy’s only region loss came at the hands of Dalton’s Christian Heritage School back on Jan. 26. Christian Heritage won in double overtime 89-87. But on Saturday, Feb. 2, Pinecrest was on their home court, so they dished out some payback with a 70-56 victory. Pinecrest held a four-point lead at halftime, but Christian Heritage rallied to take an early third period lead. Freshman guard Joe Neiner had to step in for senior guard and team captain Michael Metz, who got into foul trouble. Neiner made his court presence felt and finished with 14 points. Metz (18 points), Brian Guhde (15 points) and John Drapeau all finished in double figures. The wins improve Pinecrest to 14-6 overall and 11-1 in the region.

Pinecrest takes on Furtah Preparatory School of Acworth Friday, Feb. 8, for the final home game of the regular season.
