Holy Spirit Teams Looking For First Wins Of 2008

Holy Spirit Preparatory’s freshman point guard McKenzie Jones had 10 points and 3 steals in the girls team’s Jan. 4 loss to Pinecrest Academy 55-22. The Holy Spirit boys were led by sophomore guard James Hanna’s 12 points, all on four 3-pointers, but they came up on the short end of a 55-39 loss to Pinecrest Academy. Holy Spirit senior center Max Jones also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was the region opener for Pinecrest Academy. Pinecrest senior guard Michael Metz returned to the lineup and contributed 18 points and 9 rebounds. Senior forward Brendan Donahue had his best game of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and senior guard Brian Guhde added 10 points. Pinecrest evens their season record to 4-4.

On Jan. 5 the Holy Spirit girls traveled to Furtah Preparatory School, Acworth, where they lost 42-30. Holy Spirit junior Saeedah Cook and sophomore Colleen Pelletier paced the team 11 and 8 points, respectively. Holy Spirit only trailed by three points going into the fourth quarter, but they were plagued by foul trouble in the final quarter. The girls fall to 0-4 in the region and 3-9 overall. In the boys game Jones had a second straight double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the team’s 61-48 loss, its third consecutive. Holy Spirit could only manage 7 points in the second half and Furtah went on a 12 to 1 run from which Holy Spirit never recovered. The boys fall to 0-4 in the region and 4-8 overall. The girls and boys of Holy Spirit host Calvary Christian School of Columbus, Friday, Jan. 11, and they travel to Sandy Springs for a game against Mt. Vernon Presbyterian School, Saturday, Jan. 12.
