The Marist School girls softball team took a step toward fine-tuning their offense before the regional playoffs start with a 10-0 win over Miller Grove High School at home Sept. 25. The victory moved Marist to 8-0 in region play.

Marist struck first after scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. However, it was a six-run rally in the bottom of the second that stretched the lead to 8-0. Freshman pitcher Hailey Adams had five strikeouts through five innings to help silence the Miller Grove bats.

In the bottom of the fifth, junior third baseman Kelsey Sharp lifted a long single to the outfield fence that scored the final two runs. Speaking about the game, Marist head coach Mike Trapani said, “I was pleased the way we showed patience at the plate. We were able to wait and get a good pitch to hit. We need to keep improving offensively as we get ready to enter the post-season.”

Two days later Marist traveled to Cedar Grove High School, where they improved their overall record to 18-6-1 after posting a 15-0 shutout, Sept. 27.

Blessed Trinity High School

The Blessed Trinity girls softball team won the Cass Diamond Classic tournament for the third consecutive year. Outscoring their opponents 26-10, the Titans beat five teams to reach the championship game, where they defeated Cass High School, Cartersville, 10-0.

To close out the month, Sept. 25-27, they also extended their winning streak with victories over Chamblee High School (10-0), South Gwinnett High School (1-0) and Westminster School (1-0), respectively. They begin the month of October with an overall record of 21-4-2.
