Winning Is Contagious For St. Pius X Girls

St. Pius X High School’s girls basketball team defeated Washington High School, Atlanta, 73-13 Jan. 16. Senior center Kelly Cain had a “double-double” with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Taylor Davidson also chipped in 14 points to go with four steals and three assists. On Jan. 19 they beat Lakeside High School, Atlanta, 45-12, and the next day they came back and defeated Jones County 58-37. The St. Pius team has a perfect 5-0 record since the beginning of 2007, outscoring their opponents 176-62 in the last three games to push their overall record to 15-3.

The St. Pius X boys team also defeated Washington High School on Jan. 16 by a score of 42-29. Junior Michael Abbott poured in 12 points on four 3-pointers. Senior forward Joey Flint also pulled down five rebounds. In their Jan. 19 game St. Pius X lost to Lakeside High School 59-38. Sophomore guard Jordan Brohm led the team with 14 points, including four 3-pointers in the loss.

Both St. Pius teams will travel to Miller Grove High School, Lithonia, on Friday, Jan. 26, returning home Saturday, Jan. 27, for a rematch with Lakeside High School.
