• Flannery O’Connor’s faith inspires new generation

  March 25, the Solemnity of Annunciation, was the 100th anniversary of Flannery O’Connor’s birth. Many celebrations surrounded the Georgia author’s centennial in Milledgeville. Born in Savannah, O’Connor earned national writing acclaim for her stories and novels, now drawing a new generation to the faith.

  Red brick with a towering steeple, Sacred Heart Church sits on the edge of the Milledgeville business district, within view of the antebellum state capitol building. This year marks the church’s 150th anniversary, and it is one of the oldest in the archdiocese.
