Georgia Bulletin’s front page from the 1963 March on Washington
Published August 28, 2013
The editor of the Georgia Bulletin traveled to Washington, D.C., to report on the 1963 March on Washington.
Gerard Sherry, a pioneering editor/reporter in the Catholic press, wrote the lead story from the Aug. 29 issue about the event.
The “wind of the racial revolution has finally bent the reed of the conscience of our people,” said Matthew Ahmann, executive director of the National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice.
You can read his account from the 1963 issue below. He later followed up with a column about the event.
Both articles are quoted extensively in our Aug. 29 issue.
