The Catholic Center at the University of Georgia will host the 28th annual 5K Human Race on March 4.

The race, which journeys through the Bloomfield historic district of Athens, begins at 9 a.m. at the Catholic Center, located at 1344 South Lumpkin St.

After the race, all are invited to enjoy pizza, smoothies, cookies, soft drinks and fruit. The awards ceremony begins after the race. The top runners in each five-year age group will be given awards. The door prizes awarded at the event have been donated by Athens local businesses.

The race will benefit three different charitable organizations. The first beneficiary of the race is Camp St. Francis, which provides young children with a summer opportunity to develop leadership skills and build self-esteem. The second beneficiary is St. Mary’s Hospice House, which specializes in health care focusing on the individuals and their families facing end of life issues. The third beneficiary is the Homeless Day Service Center of Athens, which provides an address and serves as a mail service for the homeless in seeking employment and community services. It offers laundry facilities, showers and case management services.

The cost for each participant is $15 before Feb. 26 and $18 after that. There is a family rate of $45 before Feb. 26 and $50 after that. Red long-sleeve T-shirts will be provided to all participants.
