JACKSON—The St. Vincent de Paul Society conference at St. Mary Mother of God Church recently delivered food to homebound senior citizens.

The SVdP conference cares for neighbors by meeting them where they are, instead of waiting for them to reach out for assistance. The conference partners with local agencies that also assist families.

In this case, the St. Mary’s conference worked with the Butts County’s Senior Center to identify seniors who could not make it to community hosted food events. Many of them do not have transportation to make it to grocery stores, so the Vincentians team up with the local Meals on Wheels program.

St. Mary’s SVdP group also partners with the director of the summer lunch program and the managers of the local subsidized housing neighborhood in identifying hungry children—especially when school meals are not available.

The programs are designed to be conducted quarterly, depending on availability.
