CRAWFORDVILLE—In the setting of Heritage’s natural beauty, renowned Christian author and speaker Dr. Allen Hunt will lead his last retreat before stepping away to be with family and to focus on contemplative prayer and spiritual direction.

On Sept. 11-13, Hunt will lead “The Power of Forgiveness” at The Retreat at Heritage in Crawfordville. He will provide tools and concrete ways to help those attending forgive themselves, let go of past hurts inflicted by others and to embrace God’s forgiveness and mercy. Hunt is author of “No Regrets” and is a former mega-church pastor who joined the Catholic Church. 

Although he has spoken and written about forgiveness, this is the first time he’s put the subject into a retreat format. Hunt is familiar with the healing that forgiving can bring. 

“I’m a really bad forgiver. I come from a long line of grudge holders,” he said. 

This retreat will offer Mass and the sacrament of reconciliation.  

“You’ll have a lot of time for silence,” said Hunt. “It’s not your everyday retreat experience.” 

As the leader, he will be equipping participants with “a real path” and not just talking. 

“It’s about the nature of God,” and merging with him to learn to be forgiving and to seek redemption. 

Hunt said the peaceful setting of Heritage and the inspiring sacred art it showcases will lend to the experience. 

“It’s a place that’s really conducive to this type of spiritual healing,” he said. 

The four programs, spread over three days, are: “The Most Powerful Word in the English Language,” “Giving and Receiving Forgiveness,” “How to Forgive Yourself” and “The Immense Ocean of God’s Mercy and Love.” Sunday Mass at the Church of the Purification will conclude the weekend retreat.
