ATHENS— On April 14, Monsignor Donovan High School celebrated a special 20th Anniversary Founder’s Day on the birthday of Msgr. Walter J. Donovan, the school’s namesake. 

Msgr. Donovan was instrumental in the growth of Catholic education in the Athens community, where he served for over a decade. He serves as an inspiration for the education of future church leaders.  

To begin the celebration, the school community welcomed Bishop John N. Tran, who consecrated the altar in the new Barbara Bohorfoush Chapel of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A reception followed with founders, friends and family. Barbara Dooley, a school founder, was a guest speaker.  

The new Donovan Street sign was unveiled. It was purchased during the 2023 Mardi Gras Gala and donated in honor of Rosie Hildebrand, a founder and the school’s very own Queen of Mardi Gras. The sign purchase will be a new annual tradition for the renaming of the entrance street sign to honor a benefactor or friend of the school.
