Deacon James M. Easterwood remembered

WOODSTOCK—Deacon Jim Easterwood died Feb. 23. He was 76 years old.  

He was born in St. Louis in August 1946 to the late Charles and Anna Spink Easterwood.

Deacon Easterwood served in the United States Navy. He continued his service and finished his career as a master sergeant in the Georgia Air National Guard, where he spent more than 20 years on active duty.  

As a deacon, he served at Transfiguration Church, Marietta, and St. Michael the Archangel Church, Woodstock. Along with his wife, Pat, he worked with the youth of the church. Deacon Easterwood was a volunteer chaplain for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.  

Deacon Easterwood loved his family, God and his fellow veterans. In his prime he enjoyed working out. He also loved wood carving and a good Western.  

Survivors include his wife of more than 57 years, Pat; his children, Craig (Lisa) Easterwood, Christopher (Lisa) Easterwood, and Jillian (Austin) Easterwood Smith; his grandchildren, Candace (Jesse), Autumn (Shawn), Madison (Shane), Emily (Sage), Hannah (Alex), Karah (James), Austin (Torrie), Vanessa and Isaac; great-grandchildren, Maddox, Ivory, Lia, Brinson, Quinn, Hayes and Jackson; his cousins, Jerry Easterwood and Carolyn Greenwood. 

The funeral Mass was March 11 at Transfiguration Church with Msgr. Patrick Bishop celebrating. Committal will be a family service at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.  

The family suggests that memorials be made to The American Lung Association or The American Diabetes Association.
