Published June 1, 2022

FLOWERY BRANCH—Deacon Paul Edward Krarup died Monday, May 16 at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was 71 years old.

Deacon Krarup was born April 5, 1951 to the late Walter Joseph and Marian Pahan Krarup in San Diego, California and retired from Fiserv, where he was a software engineer.

Deacon Paul Krarup

A deacon at Prince of Peace Church since his ordination on Feb. 2, 2013, he not only served his church but the entire community in several ways. He served in the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) ministry, with St. Vincent de Paul as its spiritual advisor, and in Ultreya meetings, where he encouraged the Cursillo movement and participated in faith journey sharing. He worked as a chaplain for 12 years at Northeast Georgia Hospital, bringing solace and communion to so many.

A thoughtful preacher, he was known for his intelligence, dry wit and love for meticulous details. Many knew of Deacon Krarup’s great love for the arts, music (he played the guitar), theatre, fondness of Broadway and art museums, woodworking, photography and nature. When he needed space, he might go off on a lengthy bike ride or sit quietly on his back porch awaiting the reliable evening visits of God’s peaceful creatures, the white-tailed deer. Faith and family took precedence over all things, and he lived a life of generosity, humility, quality and sacrifice.

The deacon is survived by his son, David Krarup of Ashville, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Doug MacRae of Temecula, California; sisters-in-law, Robin Rose Dudek of San Diego, California, Monica Starnes of Maricopa, Arizona and Lori Rose of Chattanooga, Tennessee; nephew, Andrew MacRae; and niece, Kimberly Szwast. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melinda (Lin) Rose Krarup.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, June 9 at Prince of Peace church.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 10 at Prince of Peace with inurnment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Father Eric Hill will celebrate the Mass.

Donations may be made in Deacon Krarup’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul Society or Stephen Ministry, c.o., Prince of Peace Church, 6439 Spout Springs Road, Flowery Branch, GA 30542.
