FLOWERY BRANCH—Prince of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 13457 hosted an elegant, three-course dinner for 90 patrons to support parish altar server scholarships.

The event was celebrated in honor of the council’s chaplain, Deacon Bill Speed, and his contributions to the parish for the past 40 years. He is the namesake of the altar server scholarships, established in 2010 to encourage young adults to continue serving in the church beyond their confirmation year.

The Deacon Bill Speed Scholarship Fund, which awarded $10,000 among seven graduating seniors in 2016, was created to recognize and reward those young adults who continue to serve the church through their senior year. One past winner’s family recently reported that their son might not have finished college without this vital financial assistance.

Some 20 brother Knights delivered a memorable evening with live music, laughter and dancing. Patrons were served by Knights dressed in tuxedos, with each table featuring an elaborate centerpiece decoration.
