Published August 18, 2016
ATLANTA—Two special Masses are planned in the Atlanta Archdiocese for St. Teresa of Kolkata, on Sunday, Sept. 4, the day of her canonization in Rome, and Monday, Sept. 5, the day designated as her feast day. All are invited to participate in the Masses and celebrations.
On Sunday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m., the day of Mother Teresa’s canonization, a Mass to celebrate the occasion will be held at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This special Mass will be celebrated on the same day as her canonization by Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Members of the Missionaries of Charity who serve at the Gift of Grace House in Atlanta will be present. A reception will follow the Mass. Mother Teresa attended Mass at Sacred Heart and spoke there when she visited Atlanta in June 1995 to dedicate the Gift of Grace House, an AIDS/HIV hospice for indigent women. The house, established at the prompting of Dr. Sharne Sheehey of Grady Hospital, fulfilled a pressing need in Atlanta.
The basilica is located at 353 Peachtree St., NE, Atlanta. For more information contact 404-522-6800.
On Monday, Sept. 5, at 12:10 p.m., a Mass for the first feast day of St. Teresa of Kolkata will be celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta. The Missionaries of Charity serving in Atlanta will participate in the celebration. A light reception will follow in Kenny Hall.
