Pinecrest football coach, players receive Region 6-A recognition

CUMMING—Todd Winter, the head football coach at Pinecrest Academy, Cumming, was named Coach of the Year for Region 6-A football, and the team’s quarterback, Ryan McCarthy, was selected as Region 6-A Co-offensive Player of the Year.

A number of players were also named to the All Region Team. Stone Brown, Ryan McCarthy, Greg Varghese, Garrison Winter and Alan Yadav made the first team offense, while Wills Brown, Carson Holler, Peter Nelson and Mitchell Ojeda were selected to the first team defense.

All Region second-team selections included Michael Birozes, Corey Downes, Will Patota and Nolan Stafford. Brooks Binkley was an honorable mention selection for Region 6-A.

The honors came following the school’s best football season since joining the Georgia High School Association in 2010. The Pinecrest Paladins finished 2015 with a record of 10-2 (5-0 in region play). They also hosted their first state playoff game with a 20-7 victory over Athens Christian. They were eliminated in the second round of the state playoffs with a 43-15 loss to Stratford Academy in Macon.
