PHILADELPHIA—Marist Father James McGoldrick, who served at St. Joseph Church, Marietta, and Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Atlanta, during his years of ministry, died Sunday, Dec. 20, at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. His family, brother priests and friends were at his side. Father Paul Frechette, provincial of the Marists in the U.S., held a simple prayer service at his bedside just before he died.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. Raphael-Holy Angels Church, 3500 South Broad St., Hamilton, New Jersey.

All are invited to attend a memorial Mass for Father McGoldrick on Monday, Jan. 4, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 1350 Hearst Drive, NE, Atlanta. Marist Father James D. Duffy, current pastor of OLA, will preside.

Father McGoldrick had served as pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Church from 1997 to 2006. During his ministry there, he orchestrated the building of the 740-seat new church for the parish, along with Moylan Hall, the parish hall named after the church’s first pastor, the late Msgr. Joseph Moylan. The new church and parish hall, dedicated on Nov. 4, 2005, are at the center of the 10-acre property off Ashford-Dunwoody Road, where the school, offices and rectory are also located.

Condolences may be sent to: Marist Provincial House, Marist College, Father Paul Frechette, SM, 815 Varnum St., NE, Washington, D.C. 20017.
