Deacon Al Samoranski dies

GAINESVILLE—Deacon Alfred T. Samoranski of Gainesville died Aug. 23. He was 80 years old.
He was born Aug. 22, 1935 to Theodore and Stephanie Samoranski in Wilmington, Delaware.
Samoranski attended college at St. Mary’s of Orchard Lake in Michigan and the University of Detroit, where he majored in music and education. He taught school for 10 years and was an organist and choirmaster for 25 years before moving to upstate New York, where his family lived for 18 years before moving to Georgia.
Ordained a permanent deacon in 2003, Deacon Samoranski worked for the Archdiocese of Atlanta in the Metropolitan Tribunal for more than 10 years. He was active in the Lions Club in Michigan for several years, read for the blind on Reachout Radio in Atlanta, and was the chaplain for Knights of Columbus Council 13457 and the Faithful Friar for Lanier Assembly 2844.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Geraldine; his eight children, Michael and his wife, Linda, Elizabeth and her husband, Dominick Morano, Christopher and his wife, Lisa, Jacqueline and her husband, Peter Shostack, Deborah and her husband, Robert Schofield, Jeffrey and his wife, Katrina, Stephen, and Jennifer and her husband, Darrell Hearne; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as his sister, Antoinette, brother, Stephen and sister, Marcia.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Aug. 28 at Prince of Peace Church, Flowery Branch.
