Meet the new deacons

Rev. Mr. Valery Injuoh Akoh

Age: 27

Birthdate: Aug. 16, 1987

Birthplace: Small Soppo, Buea, Cameroon, Central Africa

Parents: The late Zachariah Akoh and Hannah Akoh

Family: Third in a family of four, with two brothers and one sister.

Education: Elementary education at Regina Pacis Primary School, Small Soppo Buea; attended Bishop Rogan Minor Seminary for middle and high school education. A spiritual year of formation followed at St. John Mary Vianney Spiritual Center, Bafut, Cameroon, during which prospective candidates spend one year in discernment and preparation before beginning philosophical studies in the major seminary.

Seminary: St. Thomas Aquinas Major Seminary, Bambui, Cameroon, bachelor of arts in philosophy, 2010; a year of pastoral internship at St. John Bosco Parish, Mbonge, Cameroon. Came to the United States in August 2011 for a year of comparative pastoral experiences and discernment at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta. At the end of the year, applied and was accepted to join the Archdiocese of Atlanta. Attending University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in Chicago for theological studies and just completed third year of theology. Will be completing last year of seminary formation beginning in the fall.

Hobbies: Playing and watching soccer, basketball, pingpong, watching documentaries, learning new languages and reading formative books.

Languages spoken: English, Spanish, Banya (native language), Pidgin English and a little bit of French.

What ministries interest you most? Interested in and open to all parochial ministries (youth, adults, elderly, Bible study and devotional groups, schools).

Rev. Mr. Gerardo Ceballos

Age: 26 

Birthdate:  Aug. 18, 1988

Birthplace: Puruandiro, Michoacan, Mexico

Parents: Raul Ceballos and Lidia González

Family: Three sisters, Rosa, Maria and Xochitl, all of California, and two brothers, Saul, of California, and Israel, of Mexico.

Education: Colegio Jose Maria Morelos, Secundaria Damaso Cardenas in Puruandiro, Michoacan, Mexico.

Seminary: High school seminary in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico; the Pontifical University of Mexico, Mexico City, for study of philosophy; the Archdiocesan Seminary of Monterrey, Mexico, philosophy degree; the Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio, for study of theology and English.

Hobbies: Hiking, traveling and movies.

Languages spoken: Spanish, English and Italian (reading and writing).

What ministries interest you most? Youth ministry, prison ministry, teaching and catechesis.

Assignment as deacon: Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta.

 

Rev. Mr. Carlos Cifuentes

Age: 29

Birthdate: June 27, 1985

Birthplace: Medellin, Colombia

Parents: Jose Cifuentes and Nora Posada

Education: Licentiate in philosophy.

Seminary: University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in Chicago where he is the last year of study for a master of divinity in theology.

Hobbies: Reading, spending time with friends, playing soccer and listening to music.

Languages spoken: Spanish, English and a little American Sign Language.

What ministries interest you most? Any ministry that includes teaching, such as RCIA and preparation for first Communion.

Assignment as deacon: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Carrollton.

 

Rev. Mr. Roberto Suárez Barbosa

Age: 32

Birthdate: July 15, 1982

Birthplace: Chiquinquirá, Colombia

Parents: Roberto Suarez and Margarita Barbosa

Family: One brother, Miguel Angel, two sisters, Viviana and Leidy Milena, and one niece, Sophia.

Education: Attended minor seminary in Chiquinquirá, Colombia; St. Bonaventure Franciscan University in Bogota, Colombia; and completed philosophy at the Archdiocesan Seminary of Monterrey, Mexico. Studied English at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and Georgia State University.

Seminary: University of St. Mary of the Lake Mundelein Seminary in Chicago for theological studies.

Hobbies: Traveling, reading, playing some guitar and piano, movies, eating out, and soccer.

Languages spoken: Spanish and English.

What ministries interest you most? Every ministry related to teaching and pastoral education, such as formation of catechists, preparation for the sacraments, and RCIA.
