St. Pius X advances to Class AAAA state football championship

ATLANTA—St. Pius X High School had to come from behind to defeat Woodward Academy 28-21 in the semifinal game of the state football playoffs Dec. 5. St. Pius scored 21 of its 28 points in the fourth quarter.

Senior tailback Joey Connors led the team in rushing with eight carries for 110 yards and one touchdown. Junior quarterback Reed Eagan, junior running back Ransom Klinger and senior fullback Dalton Wilson provided the other rushing touchdowns. On defense, senior defensive back Brennan Fitzpatrick led the team in tackles, with five solo tackles and three assisted. Wilson, who also plays linebacker on defense, and senior defensive back Brian O’Reilly each had an interception.

St. Pius (12-2) will take on last year’s Class AAA state champion Buford (14-0), the number two-ranked team in the state, at the Georgia Dome on Saturday, Dec. 13.
