Ecumenical choir concert to benefit Cobb County’s Family Promise

Published August 21, 2014

MARIETTA—Family Promise of Cobb County (FPCC) will offer “One Family, One Promise, One Song,” an interfaith concert to benefit local homeless families, on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at Transfiguration Church, 1815 Blackwell Road, Marietta. All are invited to attend.

Choirs and musical groups from 13 area congregations will perform to raise money for homeless families in Cobb County.

Tickets are $20 for premium seating and $10 for regular seating. They may be purchased at participating churches, at www.familypromisecobbcounty.org or at the door.

“Homeless families are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population,” said Family Promise president Fred Massey, owner of Massey Automotive and member of St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church. “With over 1,600 homeless Cobb school children, there is a clear call for more action by the faith-based community.”

FPCC’s host congregations assist families with children by providing lodging, meals and caring hospitality for one week, four times each year, on a rotating schedule. Additional support congregations assist the FPCC network by providing volunteers, meals and funds.

In addition to Transfiguration Church, the local congregations that serve as host congregations are: Acworth United Methodist Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church, East Cobb United Methodist Church, Pilgrimage United Church of Christ, St. Andrew United Methodist Church, St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church, St. James Episcopal Church, Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Smyrna Church of the Nazarene, Unity North Atlanta Church and Zion Baptist Church. Supporting congregations are Annunciation Episcopal and St. Benedict’s Episcopal.

FPCC, which opened in January 2014, is a non-traditional shelter where homeless families spend one week with local congregations. This interfaith organization was founded with the mission of addressing the immediate needs of homeless families with children.
