Published September 12, 2013

CONYERS—The community is invited to a fall festival and health fair at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Conyers, on Saturday, Oct. 5. Admission is free, although some fees may apply for children’s activities. Pets are prohibited.

Doors open at 10 a.m. for the daylong activities and concessions. The event wraps up at 5 p.m.

The season will be celebrated on the monastery grounds with activities for the entire family, from hayrides, pony rides and a petting zoo to kids’ arts and crafts.  There will also be organic farm produce to taste. From the grill, visitors will be able to enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers, Caribbean, Asian, and Mexican food. Products from the Abbey Store, including monk-crafted fruitcake, fudge and biscotti will be available, and the bonsai garden and store will also be open.

The Monastic Heritage Center will be open to give visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of monasticism by touring the interactive museum and seeing the Gothic Abbey church.

The completed scenic section of the Monastery Trailhead, part of the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area, will be open for exploring.

A team of medical professionals—doctors, nurses, medical technicians and volunteer staff—will be on hand for the health fair to benefit the community. The event will offer free health screenings, for vision, dental and oral, skin, bone, foot, blood pressure, depression screening, body position and posture, along with additional information about personal health and wellness. People 18 and older, from all walks of life and income levels, can participate in the health fair. Screenings begin at 11 a.m.

The monastery is located at 2625 Highway 212, SW, Conyers.
