Break a leg, Father Joseph Peek and Matt Calvo

The play “A Few Good Men” at Act3 Playhouse in Sandy Springs this month has two Catholics in ministry in featured roles.

Father Joseph Peek, parochial vicar at All Saints Church in Dunwoody, plays the sergeant at arms. Matt Calvo, media director and web designer at Transfiguration Church in Marietta, acts as Lt. Jack Ross.

The play is based on actual events that took place at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in 1986. It raises questions about the Marine code of conduct and the military establishment. The play opened on Broadway in 1989. In 1992, it was adapted into a motion picture, starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture.
The show opens with a preview performance on Thursday, Sept. 19, and continues on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through Sept. 28.  There is a matinee at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22.  Tickets are available at www.act3productions.org or the box office at 770-241-9405. Tickets range from $10 to $23. Discounts are available for groups, students, seniors and military with ID. Act3 Productions is located in the rear of Sandy Springs Plaza, 6285 Roswell Road. Plentiful free parking is available.
