Amigos For Christ Presents Annual Festival Oct. 6

Published September 27, 2012

In its ninth consecutive year, Amigos for Christ is sponsoring the Celebrate Service Music Festival, a daylong event on Saturday, Oct. 6, with live music and activities for all ages but with a specific focus on the critical need for clean water in Nicaragua.

According to Amigos for Christ, 800 million people in the world lack access to clean, abundant water. The annual festival seeks to raise awareness and enough support to provide 25 miles of water pipe distribution to rural communities in Nicaragua. Last year’s event funded 14 miles of pipe, and many local residents helped dig them during mission trips this past summer.

Various outdoor activities provide fun for families of all ages. These include a “Run for Clean Water 5K” at 9 a.m., an open 3-on-3 soccer tournament at 10 a.m., a family bike ride at 12 p.m., a two-man cornhole tournament at 2 p.m., a cupcake challenge at 3 p.m., and an open 5-on-5 ultimate frisbee tournament at 4 p.m. Each event costs $10 to participate.

There will also be live music all day long, beginning at 10 a.m. with the Sugar Hill UMC Worship Band and concluding with The Lovin’ Spoonful at 7:30 p.m. Ten bands will perform throughout the event.

Held at Suwanee Town Center Park, the event also features 15 different inflatables for children, food vendors, art and educational displays and more. More than 10,000 visited the festival in 2011.

The annual Amigos for Christ Golf Classic will be held the previous day at Legacy at Lanier Golf Resort in Buford on Friday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the Amigos for Christ mission.
