According to Michael J. Keough, board chairman, the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia approved 37 grants totaling $100,000 for their Fall 2011 cycle. These grants will support a variety of causes in the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

The following 27 grants came from the general grants program, which is funded by the foundation’s general, Goizueta, and community services endowment funds:

Action Ministries, Atlanta, was awarded $2,000 to support the operating needs of Action Ministries, which provides educational programs for homeless children.

The Atlanta Archdiocesan Office of Archives & Records was awarded $1,600 to purchase broadcast-quality audio recording equipment for an oral history program.

Archdiocese of Atlanta was awarded $10,000 to support costs in hosting the 2012 Eucharistic Congress which serves about 30,000 people.

Cristo Rey School, Atlanta, received $5,000 to launch a feasibility study with the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

CareNet Pregnancy Resource Center, Atlanta, was awarded $3,000 to support the salary of the part-time registered nurse to oversee ultrasounds and medical services.

St. Monica Church, Duluth, was awarded $2,000 to offset costs for 30 couples to attend the new natural family planning classes.

Chastity Matters/Family Honor, Inc., Dalton, was awarded $2,000 to provide for cost of the local program which promotes chastity conversations between parents and their eighth-grade children.

Christ Our Hope Church, Lithonia, was awarded $3,000 to expand the spring break and summer programs serving youth ages 8-18 during critical times when they are unattended.

Community Action Center, Sandy Springs, received $3,000 to support the emergency assistance program that helps disadvantaged families pay utilities and rent during financial hardship.

Eagle Ranch, Chestnut Mountain, was awarded $3,000 to purchase and install automated external defibrillators around their campus as a safety measure for children.

Fayette Pregnancy Resource Center, Fayetteville, was awarded $3,000 to pay operating costs of the Earn While You Learn program for pregnant mothers.

Go F.I.S.H. Outreach, Alpharetta, was awarded $2,500 to support costs associated with marketing and hosting Catholic Underground events, which seek to attract young adults and their friends back to the faith.

HealingVeterans.org, Atlanta, was awarded $1,560 to provide healing retreats to veterans of war.

Homestretch Temporary Housing, Roswell, was awarded $2,000 to support services for homeless working families.

Interfaith Airport Chaplaincy, Inc., received $2,500 to purchase items for their altar, a security system, and technology improvements in the office.

Jerusalem House, Atlanta, was awarded $5,000 to support general operating costs of providing housing programs for homeless and low-income families living with HIV/AIDS.

Monastery of the Holy Spirit, Conyers, was awarded $5,000 to support the Season of Renewal campaign for the Monastic Heritage Center.

Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Atlanta, was awarded $5,000 to illuminate and dissseminate the parish’s 100-year history through an exhibit and video production which will be used at website, alumni reunion and other local historic venues.

Our Lady of the Mountains Church, Jasper, was awarded $1,000 to support a youth pilgrimage to Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington, D.C., St. Mary’s City and St. Clement’s Island.

Renovacion Conyugal, Acworth, was awarded $4,440 to sustain and expand the work of the Renovacion Juvenil program, which targets Latino teens who are at risk of negative or destructive behaviors.

St. Joseph’s Mercy Senior Care, Inc., Rome, was awarded $5,000 toward the match of a $25,000 grant that will help purchase a handicapped-accessible lift van.

St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Dahlonega, was awarded $3,400 toward a youth pilgrimage seeking to educate teens about Catholic history throughout the East Coast.

St. Michael the Archangel Church, Woodstock, received $1,750 to support repairs and improvements to a deck and handicap ramp used for ministry meetings, classes and social functions.

St. Pius X High School, Atlanta, was awarded $4,000 to provide resources and development for faculty who will assist in the transition to a tablet-based learning environment.

Totus Tuus Catholic Radio, Oakwood, was awarded $5,000 to provide programming costs for a Catholic radio broadcast on WDUN AM 550 every Sunday.

Transfiguration Church, Marietta, received $1,250 to offset fees and travel expenses of a musician conducting a high school praise and worship event for teens.

Transition House, Atlanta, was awarded $3,000 to help with the recent unanticipated fare increases in public transportation affecting the homeless veterans that Transition House supports.

The following 10 grants were issued from the parish enrichment grants program, which is funded by the general fund and approved by the Catholic Foundation’s pastors advisory council:

Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Atlanta, was awarded $1,000 to support the cost of purchasing new classroom chairs needed in the religious education program.

Our Lady of the Mountains Church, Jasper, was awarded $1,000 to purchase a TV, mount and “smart” enhancement for improved teaching technology.

Sacred Heart Church, Milledgeville, was awarded $1,000 to create a pastoral discretionary fund for the Helping Hands Ministry for people in need.

St. Francis of Assisi Church, Cartersville, was awarded $1,000 to rent space at Red Top Mountain State Park and purchase refreshments for a teen day retreat.

St. Helena Mission, Clayton, was awarded $1,000 to purchase sound equipment that will allow parishioners to better hear homilies and readings.

St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Dahlonega, was awarded $1,000 to support a youth pilgrimage to Baltimore, Annapolis, Washington, D.C., St. Mary’s City and St. Clement’s Island.

St. Mary Church, Rome, was awarded $1,000 to support the Program for the Enrichment of Religious Knowledge, an adult religious education outreach program.

St. Oliver Plunkett Church, Snellville, was awarded $1,000 to replace potentially unsafe playground equipment.

St. Paul of the Cross Church, Atlanta, received $1,000 to provide the textbooks and materials for the religious education program for children and families that cannot afford the costs.

St. Peter Chanel Church, Roswell, was awarded $1,000 to provide better resources and instructional materials for children with disabilities enrolled in religious education programs.
