Westminster Choir To Perform At Christ The King
Published September 29, 2011
The choir, founded in 1903, is comprised of boys from the Westminster Cathedral Choir School, home to some 30 boarding choristers, who come to the school from all over the United Kingdom.
Its first master of music, Richard Terry, revived the great works of the English and continental Renaissance composers and presented this music through the choir, revolutionizing attitudes to the repertoire. Innovation continued under George Malcolm who pioneered the development of the choir’s sound along continental lines, resulting in a choir that was truly revolutionary in both what and how it sang. The choir continues these traditions under its present master of music, Martin Baker, and remains the only Catholic Cathedral choir in the world to sing daily Mass and Vespers.
The choir continues to reach new audiences though a series of distinguished recordings. In addition to regular concerts around the U.K, recent tours have included Hungary, Norway, Germany, Belgium, Italy and the United States.
Reservations are now available for single engagement, limited seating. Admission to the concert is $20 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 12. To reserve a space, call (404) 233-2145, ext. 820, email westminsterchoir@ctking.com, or go to www.cathedralofchristtheking.org.
