Pinecrest Academy and Monsignor Donovan High School played to a 3-3 tie in the first game of an April 10 doubleheader. Donovan took an early one-run lead in the first inning. Pinecrest tied the score in the second inning on a RBI by right fielder Josh Oshinski.

Pinecrest shortstop Brad Nassaur’s third inning RBI put his team back in the lead 2-1. Two innings later Donovan second baseman T. J. Krunkosky doubled to score the tying run, and a base runner scored the go-ahead run after the umpire called a balk on Pinecrest pitcher Erik Hegeman. Hegeman found redemption after his fifth inning double, which allowed centerfielder Will Hallman to score the tying run.

Donovan High School third baseman Winston Barbe. The two schools played an April 10 doubleheader. The first game ended in a tie, but Pinecrest won the second game 8-7. Photo By Michael Alexander

In the extra inning Donovan could not capitalize during an at bat where they had the bases loaded with one out. A batter grounded out to the first baseman, a runner was thrown out at home and a third batter flied out to center. Donovan pitcher Winston Barbe held Pinecrest scoreless in their final at bat, and game one ended in a tie.

Pinecrest held a 5-2 lead going into the fifth and final inning of the second game, but Donovan rallied to tie up the game on an RBI double by Craig Bell. They took the lead 7-5 when Thomas Evans successfully executed a squeeze bunt. Led by sophomore Nassaur and several freshmen, including Josh Oshinski, Pinecrest came from behind to win 8-7 after a two-out single by Oshinski.

Monsignor Donovan travels to Stockbridge to take on Community Christian School April 15 and then faces Nathanael Greene Academy of Siloam at home April 16. Pinecrest Academy hosts Dominion Christian High School, Marietta, on April 17.
