Young Adult Ministry Offers Lenten Speaker Series

Published March 4, 2010

The Office of Young Adult Ministry of the Archdiocese of Atlanta has again begun its annual Lenten coffeehouse, Holy Grounds, which brings speakers and young adults together to reflect on appropriate Lenten topics.

Holy Grounds takes place at different locations throughout the archdiocese on Wednesday nights during Lent, beginning with the Wednesday after Ash Wednesday.

A typical night begins with Mass at 6 p.m., followed by a light Lenten dinner and the speaker at 7:30 p.m. Holy Grounds concludes with coffee, dessert and fellowship. Also, priests are usually available for confession throughout the night.

Three Holy Grounds events are scheduled throughout March. On Wednesday, March 10, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Atlanta, the featured speaker will be Bob Fitzgerald, retired executive director of Ignatius House and retired vice president of BellSouth Corp., on “The Desert Experience: A Lifelong Journey.”

Yvonne Marchese, executive director of Catholics Come Home and Virtue Media, Atlanta-based Catholic nonprofit organizations, will give the talk on Wednesday, March 17, at St. Peter Chanel Church, Roswell. Her theme is “Finding a Lighthouse in the Desert.”

The last Holy Grounds in March will be held on Tuesday, March 23, with a talk by Father Jack Durkin, pastor, at St. Monica Church, Duluth. He will focus on “1 Peter 3:15 – Reason for Hope.”
