The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) named St. Pius X High School head girls soccer coach Sara Geiger as its Regional Coach of the Year for the South. Geiger’s 2009 team captured the state championship and finished with a perfect record of 22-0. In her first season the 2008 team was the state runner-up. In two seasons as head coach Geiger has a combined record of 42-2.

For the second year the Atlanta Falcons saluted Georgia High School Association coaches from around the state. St. Pius X head football coach Paul Standard was named Coach of the Year for Class AAA. The St. Pius team finished with a record of 12-1 during the 2009 season. Their only loss came against Peach County High School of Fort Valley in the state quarterfinals. The 2009 team tied the 1968 state championship team, coached by the late George B. Maloof, for the most wins in a season. Standard just completed his ninth season as head coach.

The Atlanta Track Club recognized Debbie Guilbeau as the 2009 Coach of the Year for her contributions to the sport of track and field. Guilbeau is entering her 16th season as the head coach for the girls track and field team. The 2009 team won the state title, the school’s second during Guilbeau’s coaching tenure. St. Pius teams have also had nine state runner-up finishes under her watch.
