Holy Cross To Stage Annual Musical To Benefit Poor

Published January 21, 2010

The Holy Cross Theatre Ministry will present “Kiss Me, Kate” as its 26th annual musical the last weekend of January and the first weekend of February.

The Broadway musical, which is a take on William Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew,” will venture into a land of overbearing lords, not-so-submissive ladies, lyres and liars.

This rollicking play-within-a-play will fill the parish hall with merry confusion and temper it with the brilliance of Cole Porter’s musical numbers, including “Wunderbar!,” the ever-popular “I Hate Men!” and “Always True to You in My Fashion,” among other gems.

Proceeds will support Friends of St. Martin de Porres at Holy Cross, a ministry dedicated to feeding the homeless and needy in the Atlanta area. This is an all-volunteer non-profit ministry funded by the generosity of Holy Cross parishioners and the annual show.

Opening night is Friday, Jan. 29, with a dinner at 7 p.m. followed by the performance at 8 p.m. Tickets for opening night are $35 per person.

On Saturday, Jan. 30, the church will host a buffet at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. Tickets for Saturday’s show are $25 per person. Tickets for the dinner and buffet shows must be purchased in advance.

The Holy Cross Theatre Ministry will perform repeat shows on Sunday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 5, at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 7, at 4 p.m. Tickets for these shows are $12 per adult and $6 for children 12 and under.

Tickets are available in the church lobby after weekend Masses. Tickets will also be sold at the door 45 minutes before the door opens.

Holy Cross Church is located at 3773 Chamblee-Tucker Rd, Atlanta.
