Published December 10, 2009
Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Atlanta, won its third consecutive championship and finished the season with an undefeated record of 10-0.
Our Lady of Mercy, Fayetteville, finished in second place and St. Theresa Church, Douglasville, and Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, tied for third place.
Six-foot-eight Sarran Marshall of Our Lady of Lourdes was voted by his peers as the league’s Most Valuable Player. Marshall averaged nearly 16 points per game and shot 57 percent from the free throw line.
The All League Team included Kevin Keysar of Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City; Mark Weber of St. Mary Magdalene Church, Newnan; Ruben Romero of St. Matthew Church, Tyrone; Lee Spoor of St. Theresa Church, Douglasville; and Jamie Vickers of the Our Lady of Mercy team, Fayetteville.
In an effort to reinforce a Christian atmosphere among players during games, a $20 fine was implemented this season for any technical foul. Only two were committed, but the $40 was contributed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
On Jan. 16 during halftime of Our Lady of Mercy High School’s game against Locust Grove High School, CML team members will be recognized at midcourt. CML commissioner Jim Winkler will also present a check on behalf of the league to Our Lady of Mercy principal Danny Dorsel for the school’s annual fund.
