Published April 9, 2009
The Georgia Athletic Directors Association (GADA) named David Connolly, a senior at Marist School, as the top male athlete in the state of Georgia during its March 23 awards breakfast in Savannah. As a result of the honor Connolly is the recipient of the United Health/Student Resources High School Male/Female Scholarship Award, which includes $1,000 to one male and one female athlete in the state who has represented his or her sport in the area of leadership and performance.

Connolly, who runs cross country and track at Marist, shared the award with another runner, Sarah Elizabeth Adams of Spalding High School, Griffin. Both athletes will continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level, Adams at North Georgia College & State University, Dahlonega, and Connolly at Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H. Both are nominees for the Southeast region award, and if selected, he will become a nominee for the National Scholar Athlete of the Year Award. Connolly is a parishioner at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Atlanta. Adams, who is also Catholic, attends sacred Heart Church Griffin.
