Fall Revive Set To Enliven Young Adults

Published November 1, 2007

A retired cop who patrolled the streets of Los Angeles. A martial arts instructor turned priest who hosts a cooking show. These are the nationally known speakers talking at the 2007 Revive conference, touching issues important to young adults questioning their faith to those rooted in the church.

With the theme of “Be Transformed,” the fall event returns to Atlanta after being absent for a year. Several hundred people are expected to attend.

“We think it will be all encompassing. We think it would speak to a wide audience no matter where that particular person is with their walk with God,” said Dorothy Polchinski, the director of Young Adult Ministry for the Atlanta Archdiocese.

The event at St. Andrew Church, 675 Riverside Road, Roswell, will take place from 7-11 p.m., on Saturday, Nov. 17, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. The popular On the Deck musicians are hosting a tailgating party before the doors open. A BBQ meal can be purchased for $5. A dessert social will follow the program.

The speakers are diverse and bring unique experiences to share.

Jesse Romero is a full-time bilingual Catholic evangelist, who worked the streets of Los Angeles as a deputy sheriff. He is a husband and father, as well as a three-time world police boxing champion and a two time U.S.A. kickboxing champion. He describes himself as a “Latin lover of our Lord and our Lady.”

A crowd favorite, Father Leo Patalinghug is a priest of the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

He has choreographed an award-winning break-dancing group and was also a martial arts instructor. When he is not serving as associate pastor, Father Patalinghug hosts a

PBS-TV show, “Grace Before Meals.”

Atlanta’s own Father Ricardo Bailey is emceeing the night’s event. A parochial vicar of Holy Spirit Church in Atlanta and chaplain for the Serra Club, Father Ricardo also is known as “Father Crunk” as a popular guest radio personality on Atlanta’s Q100.5 FM.
