New Priest Assignments Announced

Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory has announced the following priest assignments. The assignments are effective June 21, 2007, unless otherwise noted.
Director Of Vocations
Father Luke R. Ballman, pastor of St. Augustine Church, Covington, has been assigned as director of vocations for the Archdiocese of Atlanta and rector of St. Charles Borromeo House of Formation, Atlanta. His residence will be at St. Charles Borromeo House of Formation. For the sake of canonical status, he is officially appointed as parochial vicar at Most Blessed Sacrament Church, Atlanta.
College Chaplain
Father Brian J. Higgins, who has been serving as director of vocations for the Archdiocese of Atlanta, has been appointed as chaplain of Southern Catholic College, Dawsonville. He will reside at the college. For the sake of canonical status, he is officially appointed as parochial vicar at Christ Redeemer Church, Dawsonville.
First Assignments As Pastor
Father Kevin J. Hargaden, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Lawrence Church, Lawrenceville, has been assigned to his first pastorate as pastor of St. Peter Church, LaGrange, and administrator of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Mission, Warm Springs.
Father Roberto A. Orellana, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Patrick Church, Norcross, has been assigned to his first pastorate as pastor of St. Augustine Church, Covington.
Father Joseph J. Shaute, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Theresa Church, Douglasville, has been assigned to his first pastorate as pastor of St. Clement Church, Calhoun.
Pastors
Father Karl Duggan, pastor of St. Peter the Rock Church, The Rock, has been assigned as pastor of St. Gabriel Church, Fayetteville.
Father Michael G. Kingery, pastor of St. Clement Church, Calhoun, has been assigned as pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City.
High School Chaplain
Father James P. Adams, pastor of St. Gabriel Church, Fayetteville, has been assigned as chaplain at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn. For the sake of canonical status, he has been officially appointed as parochial vicar at Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City. He will reside at Holy Trinity Church.
Canon Law Study
Father Balappa Selvaraj, pastor at St. Peter Church, LaGrange, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Mission, Warm Springs, has been granted permission to pursue studies in canon law in Rome, Italy, with residence at the North American College.
Sabbatical
Father John Walsh, pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, has been granted a 10-month sabbatical beginning Aug. 1, 2007.
Administrator
Father Stewart A. Wilber, who has been undertaking graduate study at Fordham University, New York, has been assigned as administrator for one year of St. Peter the Rock Church, The Rock.
Parochial Vicars
Father Alvaro D. Avendaño, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Cumming. In addition, he will assist with Spanish Masses at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Dahlonega.
Father Carlos-Mario Bustamante-Agudelo, SDB, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. John Neumann Church, Lilburn, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at the Church of St. Benedict, Duluth, and the Catholic mission, Duluth.
Father Charles A. Byrd Jr., who has been serving on the faculty of St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa., has been assigned as a parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta.
Father Luis Guillermo Córdoba, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Blairsville, and at St. Paul the Apostle Church, Cleveland.
Father Juan de la Cruz, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Joseph Church in Hanover, Pa., is returning to service in the Archdiocese of Atlanta and has been assigned as a parochial vicar at Holy Family Church, Marietta.
Msgr. William G. Hoffman, retired, has been assigned to return to active ministry to serve as a parochial vicar for one year at St. Patrick Church, Norcross. This assignment will be effective in late August 2007.
Father Roberto Jaramillo, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Blairsville, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta. He will also assist with the celebration of Spanish Masses at St. Andrew Church, Roswell.
Father Fausto Marquez, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at Holy Family Church, Marietta, has been assigned as associate priest at Centro Católico del Espiritu Santo, Mission of Holy Spirit Church, Atlanta, and as a parochial vicar at St. Jude the Apostle Church, Atlanta. He will reside at St. Jude the Apostle Church.
Father Joseph E. Morris, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Joseph Church, Marietta, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at Prince of Peace Church, Flowery Branch.
Father Arturo Palos, recently assigned as a parochial vicar at Holy Cross Church, Atlanta, has also been assigned to serve as a parochial vicar at Corpus Christi Church, Stone Mountain.
Father Vincent P. Sullivan, who has been serving as a parochial vicar at St. Michael Church, Gainsville, has been assigned as a parochial vicar at St. Lawrence Church, Lawrenceville.
Campus Ministry
Father Paul A. Burke, who has been serving as chaplain at Our Lady of Mercy High School, Fairburn, has been assigned as campus minister at Kennesaw State University Catholic Center, Kennesaw, and at Berry College Catholic Center, Rome. For the sake of canonical status, he has been officially appointed as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Church, Atlanta. He will reside at Holy Spirit Church.
Archbishop Gregory has confirmed the recommendation of Very Reverend John F. O’Connor, OFM, Minister Provincial of the Franciscan Friars, Holy Name Province, and has appointed Father Thomas Vigliotta, OFM, as the new director of campus ministry at the Catholic Center at the University of Georgia, Athens. The appointment was effective June 1.
