Author To Speak On ‘Champions Of Faith’

Published June 7, 2007

The Respect Life Ministry of St. Monica Church will present a dinner and talk with Tom O’Toole, author of the book “Champions of Faith: Catholic Sports Heroes Tell Their Stories,” Saturday, June 16, at 7 p.m.

For his book, O’Toole, a popular freelance writer for many Catholic publications, interviewed a wide range of Catholic athletes and coaches and discovered heroes who take their role model status seriously. He also found that faith plays a major part in their success and their witness.

O’Toole’s innovative writings on the connection between faith and sports, which he calls “Cathletics,” have been praised by the papal nuncio, and his groundbreaking book is one of the original volumes to be placed on the shelves of the recently formed Office of Church and Sport located in the Vatican.

O’Toole, a Notre Dame graduate and die-hard fan of Notre Dame football, is committed to spreading the Catholic faith through prayer, writing, teaching, sports and humor.

Tickets for the St. Monica event are $25 each, and the event includes dinner, beverages and dessert. Adult beverages will be available for a cash donation. Tickets can be purchased after all Masses at St. Monica’s or by calling (678) 373-3650 or by e-mailing patrick1300@charter.net. Seating is limited.

All proceeds will benefit St. Monica’s Respect Life Ministry’s outreach efforts.

St. Monica’s is located at 1700 Buford Highway, Duluth.
