Spring Hill College To Honor Msgr. Edward Dillon

Spring Hill College will hold its annual commencement on Sunday, May 13, at 10 a.m. on the “Avenue of the Oaks” on the campus. Approximately 300 students will receive their diplomas.

Archbishop Oscar H. Lipscomb of the Diocese of Mobile, Ala., is the speaker and will be awarded the Fons Sapientiae Award, the college’s highest honor, given to individuals whose lives have been examples of practical wisdom inspired by faith.

The college will also award an honorary doctor of humane letters to Msgr. Edward J. Dillon, JCD, and an honorary doctor of laws to John J. Burke.

Msgr. Dillon is pastor of Holy Spirit Church in Atlanta. In addition to being an expert in canon law and serving the Archdiocese of Atlanta, Msgr. Dillon has been instrumental in establishing Spring Hill’s theology programs in Atlanta.

Burke is a long-time member of the college’s board of trustees and an alumnus of Spring Hill. His generosity, as well as that of his family, provided for the building on campus that honors his parents, the Marnie and John Burke Memorial Library.

Graduates and families are also invited to a Baccalaureate Mass at

5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, on the Avenue of the Oaks. In the event of inclement weather, the Baccalaureate Mass will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday in the Arthur Outlaw Recreation Center. The commencement ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Arthur Outlaw Recreation Center.
