Knights To Host Inaugural Founder’s Day Dinner Dance

Published February 1, 2007

The Knights of Columbus Father Charles J. Watters Assembly #2688 will host a Founder’s Day Gala on Saturday, March 31, at the DoubleTree Hotel. All Atlanta area Knights and their guests are invited to attend.

The inaugural event will be held to honor the founding of the Catholic fraternal order on March 29, 1882, by Father Michael J. McGivney 125 years ago. Those organizing the gala hope to make it an annual event.

Archbishop-emeritus John F. Donoghue will serve as the guest speaker for the gala.

The evening will feature a formal sit-down dinner and a band, which will play music for dancing. Doors will open at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. A cash bar will also be available.

The attire for the gala is sport coat or suit and tie, and all Knights are encouraged to attend in official dress regalia, which is tuxedo with social baldric.

A block of hotel rooms will be reserved; if at least 10 rooms are reserved, the rate will be $82 plus tax. Reservations can be made directly with the DoubleTree by calling (770) 992-9600. Those calling should mention their Knights of Columbus affiliation.

The cost for the gala is $50 per person. Organizers are requesting that those interested respond by Feb. 23.

To register, send a check, payable to Knights of Columbus, to Bob Heald, 8740 South Mount Drive, Alpharetta, GA 30022. Enclosed with the check should be the attendee’s name, contact information, including a phone number and e-mail address, and entrée choice of either prime rib, salmon or chicken Oscar.

Organizers anticipate an early sellout, and a wait list will be established if needed.
