Atlanta Church Honors Senior ‘Trailblazers’

Published April 20, 2006

St. Paul of the Cross Church will bestow their seventh annual “Trailblazer” awards on Sunday, April 30, during 11:30 a.m. Mass. At this year’s ceremony, the parish will honor all senior members, recognizing with special awards five members who have demonstrated outstanding service in the parish stewardship program and community. The theme of the award ceremony is “You Are the Light of the World.”

In April 1991, the Atlanta church, located in the Collier Heights community in the city, held the first Trailblazer ceremony to honor the contributions of 12 seniors of the church. From the beginning, the purpose of senior day was to provide an opportunity for the parish family to express its appreciation to all those at the church who work to preserve the legacy of the parish, share their talents and gifts through stewardship, nourish family and friends with their wisdom and joy of praising God, and serve as an inspiration—trailblazers—for the younger church members.

Members of the church who are age 60 or older, have been registered at the parish for at least 25 years, and demonstrate outstanding service are eligible for this award.

St. Paul of the Cross, located at 551 Harwell Road, NW, has been ministering in Atlanta since 1954.

Following the ceremony, a reception will be held in the school cafeteria.
