Conyers
Monastery To Host Annual Concert With Atlanta Boy Choir
Published November 17, 2005
The Atlanta Boy Choir will continue a 25-year local Christmas tradition when the group performs again in December at the Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit. The concert will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10.
Hailed as one of the world’s finest boy choirs, the Atlanta Boy Choir has performed in many of the world’s great cathedrals and concert halls across North America and Europe. David R. White, the artistic director and conductor, leads the group and continues the choir’s tradition of preparing and performing the great masterworks of choral music. In addition to the music, the choir emphasizes, in a professional atmosphere, the education and cultural development of each choir member.
The Christmas concert program will include the “Dancing Day” suite by John Rutter, a collection of old English carols set for boys’ voices and harp. In this work, Rutter employs the words and melodies of six traditional carols and resourcefully exploits their various rhythmic qualities. In addition, the group will be performing many other holiday favorites.
Individual tickets for the concert at the monastery are $25, and family packages are available for $60 at the Abbey Store. Half of the proceeds will go to the Monastery food bank.
Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Monastery is located at 2625 Highway 212, SW, Conyers.
