Spring Hill College Offers Parish Nurse Program

The Spring Hill College Division of Nursing and Providence Hospital will again offer a Parish Nurse Preparation Institute this summer on the college campus in Mobile, Ala. The single course will take place over two long weekends, June 25-27 and July 23-25.

The role of the parish nurse is health promotion, risk-reduction, disease prevention and focusing on the care of the whole person including the family, while integrating faith into the practice. Courses this summer will include the role of the church in health care, values and ethics in health care, theology and health, mental health and counseling and spiritual care and the nursing process.

The institute is limited to 33 participants, and the $500 course fee includes the class, meals, lodging, continuing education certificate and parish nurse pin. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Participants in the course will arrive on Friday of the designated weekend from 3-5 p.m. and will leave Sunday.
