Ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service To Be Held

Our Lady of the Assumption Church will join with fellow churches of Brookhaven Christian Ministries to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord with a traditional sunrise service on Easter Sunday, April 11. The celebration will take place at 7 a.m. on the academic quadrangle of Oglethorpe University campus. This annual service will include song, Scripture and prayer.

Rev. Brad Miller of Brookhaven Christian Church will be the featured speaker at the ecumenical service.

Rev. Miller joined the staff of Brookhaven Christian Church as senior minister in 2001. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in public administration from Wayne State University, a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Kentucky and a master of divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was ordained into the Order of Christian Ministry on May 16, 1999, at Memorial Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Other member churches of Brookhaven Christian Ministries include Brookhaven United Methodist Church, China Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Christ in You Our Hope of Glory Church, Clairmont Baptist Church, Cross & Crown Lutheran Church, Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church, St. James United Methodist Church, St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church, St. Peter’s True Holiness Church and Skyland United Methodist Church.

A voluntary offering will benefit the Interfaith Outreach Home, a transitional home for two-parent homeless families with children. Since opening its doors in 1992, it has provided housing and support for over 400 homeless persons in their quest to regain their independence. Immediately following the sunrise service, guests are invited to attend a pancake breakfast at Brookhaven Christian Church, which is adjacent to Oglethorpe University at 4500 Peachtree Road. Brookhaven Christian Ministries is a group of churches from the Brookhaven community that meets monthly to address the needs of local residents.
