MILLEDGEVILLE—The Walking with Moms in Need ministry of Sacred Heart Church in Milledgeville held a PlayDate+Resource Fair in the spring for moms and children.

Ministry volunteers held the Saturday event in a park offering fun activities for children including interacting with therapy dogs, playground time and arts and crafts. Health agencies, educational programs, food pantries, housing programs and other ministry partners participated to display their resources in a trade show-type setting.

Campus Catholics and other college students from Georgia College & State University lent helping hands to ministry leaders to staff the event.

“In helping our moms look at their future and the potential for themselves, many get back on track,” said co-organizer Mary Short.

Then-pastor Father Bryan Kuhr greeted all the families and offered a prayer of blessing.

Moms received tote bags for their swag from visiting agency representatives at the tables, and volunteers held a gift basket drawing.

The Milledgeville ministry, with the support of current pastor Father Paul Nacey, presented gift cards to moms of school age children to assist with the purchase of school supplies this fall. Families with children in pre-K through grade 5 served by WWMIN received a $30 gift card for each student.

Walking with Moms in Need is a nationwide, parish-based initiative to increase support for pregnant and parenting mothers in need. It works to ensure that any woman who finds herself unexpectedly pregnant, or parenting in difficult circumstances, can turn to her local Catholic Church and be connected with resources she needs. The campaign is promoted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
