The 2011 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) boys state track and field meet took place in Jefferson May 5-7 and the girls meet took place in Albany May 12-14.

In Class A competition Fayetteville’s Our Lady of Mercy High School boys finished fourth overall. In the 100-meter dash Mercy’s Pierce Vincent finished third with a time of 10.95, while his teammate Jordan Sartor finished fifth with a time of 11.14. Sartor also finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of  21.75. Mercy’s Courtney Prevost finished fourth and fifth in the triple jump and long jump, respectively. Mercy’s 4×100 relay team, which included Jordan Sartor, Delfayeo Matthews, Courtney Prevost and Pierce Vincent, came in third with a time of 43.26.

In other Class A competition Pinecrest Academy’s Joe Neiner finished first in the 300-meter hurdles. In the girls meet the Cumming school’s Sarah Gehling reached a height of 10 feet to capture first place in the pole vault.

In Class AA Roswell’s Blessed Trinity High School’s Tyler Harrison took second place in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.50, and he came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.45. Harrison is the school record holder for both events. In the girls meet Blessed Trinity’s Samantha Sanchez finished third in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet, six inches. Kate Beecham took third place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:11.90. In the 800-meter run Bailey Willett came in fourth place with a time of 2:25.17. Beecham and Sanchez are the current school record holders for their respective events.

In Class AAA the St. Pius X High School girls team was state runner-up. Shelby Ashe finished first in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet and second in the discus with a throw of 131 feet. Erin Osment finished first in the 3200-meter run and her teammate Devon Dabney finished second. In the 1600-meter run Dabney finished third and Osment finished fifth. In the pole vault the Atlanta school’s Danielle Penk reached a height of nine feet, six inches to take fourth place. In the high jump Martinique Edwards took seventh place.

In Class AAAA Marist School’s Peyton Cambas captured third place in the pole vault with a height of 10 feet during the girls meet.

The Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) boys and girls state track and field meet took place at Mills Stadium, Albany, April 28-30. In the girls meet for Class AAA , Atlanta’s Holy Spirit Preparatory School’s Hannah Meadows placed first in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter run with a time of 5:32 and 12:12, respectively. In the boys meet Holy Spirit’s Ryan Doyle finished second in the 3200-meter run (10:02), third in the 1600-meter run (4:41) and third in the 800-meter run (2:06). Chris Sickafoose took fourth place in the shot put with a distance of 43 feet, 10 inches. Rudy Sanders came in in eighth place in the 400-meter run.
